The Hindu Diaspora Foundation (THDF) strongly condemns the continuing and deeply disturbing attacks against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. Reports of targeted violence, intimidation, destruction of homes and temples, and the suppression of religious freedom represent a grave human rights crisis that demands immediate national and international attention.
Among the most alarming cases is the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu man whose death following a mob attack has become a chilling symbol of the growing danger faced by religious minorities in Bangladesh. The brutality of this incident has sent shockwaves through the Hindu community and reinforced a pervasive sense of fear and vulnerability.
In another deeply disturbing episode from Jhenaidah, nearly 200 kilometers from Dhaka, Gobinda Biswas, a rickshaw-puller, was reportedly assaulted by a mob for the simple act of wearing a red sacred thread—an outward and peaceful expression of his Hindu faith. That such a marker of belief could trigger violence underscores the alarming intolerance confronting minorities in everyday life.
These incidents are not isolated. They point to a systemic and deeply troubling pattern of targeted violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, where identity itself has become a liability. The cumulative effect of these attacks is the erosion of basic human rights, the suppression of religious freedom, and the breakdown of peaceful coexistence.
When individuals are attacked for who they are and what they believe, it is not merely a failure of law enforcement—it is a moral and democratic crisis that demands urgent action and global attention.
“These are not random acts of violence—they are targeted attacks against a defenseless minority,” said Ramesh Ramdeen the President of the Hindu Diaspora Foundation.
“When Hindus are hunted, their homes destroyed, and their lives taken without justice, it is not just a minority issue—it is a complete collapse of rule of law. The world must stop looking away.”
The President further stated:
“India shed blood to help create Bangladesh so that tyranny would never again define the region. Today, allowing Hindus to be terrorized dishonors that history. Silence from governments and global institutions is no longer acceptable.”
The Hindu Diaspora Foundation calls upon:
- The Government of Bangladesh to immediately ensure the safety of Hindu citizens, conduct transparent investigations, and prosecute all perpetrators without delay.
- India, as a key regional leader and historic partner in Bangladesh’s founding, to raise these concerns forcefully through diplomatic channels.
- The United Nations, international human rights bodies, and democratic governments, including the United States, to independently monitor the situation and demand accountability.
The Hindu Diaspora Foundation stands in unwavering solidarity with the Hindu community of Bangladesh and will continue to advocate globally until their rights, safety, and dignity are fully protected.
